Small Scale LNG
Natural gas is increasingly becoming the most plentiful, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly alternative to conventional transportation fuels in marine bunkering, road transportation, mining, and off-grid applications. Small Scale LNG (SSLNG) is driven by emissions legislation, demand for cheaper and ‘greener’ fuel as well as technological advancement.
LNG is produced when natural gas is cooled to a temperature of minus 161 degrees Celsius at which it condenses into liquid. The technologies employed to achieve this low temperature necessitate refrigeration in the most efficient and cost effective way using various combinations of refrigerants, fundamental thermodynamic cycles and heat integration techniques.
For small to medium scale LNG, it is not efficiency that matters the most, but there are other factors that play the most important role when selecting a liquefaction technology, such as:
- Simplicity (low equipment count)
- Modularisation
- Ease of maintenance, operation and installation
The two main technology groups are:
- Mixed Refrigerant Processes
- Expansion Technologies
Our cryogenic capability, as well as our passion for meeting energy needs are well suited to add value to the LNG value chain from loading facilities at the large scale terminals to storage/reloading terminals and local distribution facilities such as trucks and bunkering barges. OSL is committed to developing and engineering the right solution to allow SSLNG infrastructure to reach the market place sooner with a much lower CAPEX and aftercare support.
OSL Service and Solution Offerings:
- Concept Studies & Technology Selection
- Feasibility Studies & Techno-Economic Evaluation
- Front End Engineering Design
- Detailed Engineering Design
- Plant Simulation and 3D Modelling
- Technology Development
OSL believes that the marine sector will be the main driver for SSLNG growth over the next decade and that the main barrier of growth of SSLNG is the lack of infrastructure. OSL is well positioned with a wealth of experience as a gas transportation specialist to serve in meeting the energy needs through SSLNG development.
