The Year of Action
We hope that 2015 is treating you well so far, with plenty of business developments and a healthy, happy workforce. This year OSL is focusing on extending its current work with universities and industry bodies, and we’re excited to say that Principal Director Alastair Robertson is going on a mini tour of sorts.
In February, a talk by Alastair at Nottingham University will complement our recent involvement in their Careers in Energy event last November. This will be in conjunction with Engineers Without Borders UK, which creates positive change by empowering thousands of new engineers to remove barriers to human development. The organisation is heavily involved in numerous Third World charity projects, encouraging students to use their skills to make the world a better place through engineering.
“Talking to students about working in engineering is mutually beneficial,” said Alastair. Whilst these budding engineers receive an insight into my personal career journey, OSL benefits from putting feelers out for future placements and other opportunities to engage young minds.”
This coincides with the Energy Institute’s Centenary Roadshow, with Hull being visited alongside Dubai, Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur in 2015. Alastair is a member of the local EI committee and will play a key part in an event hosted by Hull University, which will include informative talks on the benefits of the EI Energy Matrix and Young Professionals Network. This will focus on increasing both the overall membership and the amount of active members in the Humber region.
“These visits to universities reinforce our IChemE Bronze Corporate Partner status,” added Alastair. “Through student engagement, training, careers events, Year in Industry schemes and investment in a growing engineering base, OSL ensures that it continues its mission to attract, train and retain the best from both the UK and abroad.”
2015 is also OSL’s tenth anniversary. With a decade of operations that has seen the company grow exponentially, work more closely with numerous industry bodies and invest in property in the form of OSL House, a celebration is most certainly on the cards.
“We’re not yet sure exactly what shape the event will take,” said Operations Manager Neil Barnard, “but rest assured that invitations will be sent out in due course. It’s an exciting year for OSL, and we’re always open to collaborating with anyone who shares our passion for providing sustainable engineering solutions through Clever Thinking.”
