OSL Supports an Engineer of the Future

Following the Arkwright Scholarships Trust making its largest ever award in September, OSL now welcomes an aspiring leader in engineering to our offices on Henry Boot Way.

Amy Felgate, 17, joins the team having passed a rigorous selection process that consisted of an assessed application form with teacher’s reference, a two-hour aptitude exam and a university-based interview. As a result, Amy can now continue her studies at Hymers College whilst also receiving an annual financial award from Arkwright, mentoring from OSL’s seasoned engineers, and the opportunity to attend corporate events, project launches and teambuilding exercises.

“Young people have always been at the heart of our company philosophy,” said Alastair Robertson, Principal Director. “We constantly find new ways to attract, train and retain, thereby giving the student access to the best resources, knowledge and people in the industry, and allowing ourselves to give something back to the community. 

Amy is one of 371 sixth form students from across the UK to be awarded a new Scholarship by Jonathan Firth, Director of Operations and Projects at Virgin Galactic (London), and Gordon Masterton OBE, Vice President of Jacobs Engineering (Glasgow). The primary aim of the scholarships is to support students through studies and encourage them into top universities and higher apprenticeship schemes.

Amy said: “It's incredible to have been awarded an Arkwright Scholarship to further develop my interest in engineering. It is brilliant to be sponsored by OSL and The Energy Institute. I am enthusiastic about the opportunities open to me as part of the scholarship, and to learn more about engineering within the company.”

“We’re delighted to have Amy with us,” added Alastair. “You never know, she may well go on to become one of our own multidisciplined engineers of the future.”
