Make the World Better with a Sweater
The team at OSL House took part in Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 12th December in aid of Save the Children UK. A fun and festive celebration that’s now in its third year, the event raises funds for crucial charity work, and people across the nation donned the most jolly, colourful and, in some cases, crazy jumpers they could find for the day. The government also joined in by pledging to match every pound donated, doubling the grand total that’s still being counted.
At OSL we work on various high profile technical projects for the UK, Europe and further afield, but that doesn’t mean we can’t wear woolly jumpers covered in holly, bells and snowmen in the process. As you can see from the photo, there were some especially good efforts, such as Finance and Administration Manager Denise Mason with her bright red “Ho ho ho!” Santa face, and a few of the chaps wearing complementary Yuletide uniforms, with their own heads topping off the effect. But the gold star has to go to Engineering Designer Andy Wray, whose Christmas tree actually lit up thanks to LED lights embedded in the fibres!
Twenty of us took part in the day and together we raised over £100 for Save the Children. Out of every £1 they receive, 88p is spent on directly helping children, 11p on fundraising activities, and just 1p on governance and other costs. The organisation’s work covers emergencies, education, health, hunger, child poverty and protection, helping 15.4 million young people in 2013 alone. We’re proud to support this valuable and essential charity in continuing its work year after year, and if you took part in the event too we hope you had a great time.
