Human Progress is Powered by Energy
Last year saw the centenary of the Energy Institute (EI), the professional body for the energy industry that delivers good practice and professionalism across the depth and breadth of the sector. This milestone is being commemorated through a Centenary Roadshow travelling to various venues across the UK and overseas, and included Hull University on Thursday 16th April. Jointly hosted by the university and the EI Humber branch, the event featured a keynote address by the EI’s Chief Executive, Louise Kingham OBE FEI; a detailed focus on the Humber’s energy scene; short presentations on EI services, such as the Young Professionals Network and the Energy Matrix; and one-to-one advice for those seeking a career in the energy sector.
Louise Kingham also holds a number of advisory and committee posts within energy organisations, including the University of Birmingham’s Advisory Board for the Institute of Energy Research and Policy, and has received a Global Women in Energy Award in recognition of her achievements in leadership. Hearing Louise talk about the future of the sector was tremendously inspiring for students and industry professionals alike, and OSL would like to thank her and the IE for putting on a valuable event in our region.
With dozens of guests on the day, the roadshow proved an excellent opportunity for the IE to take on new members and reinvigorate lapsed affiliates. The activity schedule highlighted the importance and benefits of working in the industry, especially in the Humber region due to its strong focus in green energy and renewables.
Louise KIngham said: "I was delighted to round off centenary celebrations at the University of Hull with the Humber branch and OSL Consulting. A place of learning was a fitting venue to remind our guests why the role of the EI is so key in delivering skills, knowledge and good practice so that the energy world can do its best for societies around the globe. From students to Honorary Fellows, there is a contribution for each individual to make and to take away from involvement with the energy sector's only dedicated multi-disciplined professional society."
OSL’s Principal Director Alastair Robertson, Recruitment Manager Sarah Taylor and various other members of the team were in attendance, with Sarah delivering a workshop-style presentation on employment. We were also joined by Amy Felgate, who has been with OSL since 2013 through the Arkwright Scholarships Trust, helping her to gain first-hand knowledge and experience of a career in engineering.
