Fresh Out of University

Providing graduates with everything they need to enter the gas and oil industry is an essential part of OSL’s philosophy. By working with universities, scouring LinkedIn for suitable candidates, and upholding a strong relationship with the IChemE, we’re able to effectively analyse potential recruits and welcome young minds from across the nation and beyond.

September has seen three new members of staff fresh out of university. Chemical Engineers Beverley Magumise (top) and Josh Ojera (bottom) are Swansea University alumni, whilst Mark Evans has recently graduated from Teesside University with an MEng in Mechanical Engineering. The trio are already immersed in their work, benefitting from seasoned engineers acting as mentors to oversee their progress whilst imparting knowledge and experience.

Beverley and Josh are both from Essex and studied the same course in Swansea. Having attended OSL’s Graduate Assessment Day, which used challenges, presentations and teamwork to evaluate candidates, they were soon offered placements. Josh and Beverley are now familiarising themselves with current projects whilst Senior Process Engineer Noman Farid guides them. As well as working together, the pair also share a house: “I see him all the time,” joked Beverley, “so it’s lucky that we get on well!”

Meanwhile, Mark is originally from Middlesbrough and was contacted through LinkedIn by Resourcing Manager Sarah Taylor. Following a telephone interview, formal interview and orientation process, the young graduate is now working on codes and regulations, with Senior Mechanical Engineer Paul Kaliafetis providing expert mentoring. “I was looking into becoming a Mechanical Engineer for the Territorial Army in Newcastle,” explained Mark, “but when OSL got in contact I made sure to seize the opportunity.”

Sarah Taylor said: “Attract, train and retain is the mantra that guides our recruitment process. By finding the brightest sparks and giving them the resources required for their continuous development, combined with a range of employment benefits, we’re creating the strongest team in the region.”
