Engineering a Brighter Future
OSL work closely with industry bodies to ensure that the team has access to advice, resources, up-to-the-minute sector updates and valuable events. One such event recently took place at OSL House, with fifteen representatives from the IMechE Yorkshire Eastern Area committee in attendance.
Alan Brattan, chairman of the committee, started the presentation by welcoming everyone and mentioning how important it is to have events like these in the local area. Principal Director Alastair Robertson then gave a talk, illuminating guests on the mechanical aspects of our work on a current project in Germany. Examples of methods for dynamic stress analysis were also presented: combined with finite elements, computational fluids studies, and static and rotating equipment calculations, the results can be new integrated studies with improved accuracy and cost saving benefits.
We were delighted to welcome representatives from companies such as Vivergo Fuels (a world-scale biofuels business operating a £350m plant), Centrica (the largest supplier of gas to domestic customers in the UK), and OneSubsea (a market leader in subsea multiphase boosting, subsea wet gas compression and multiphase metering). A number of local engineering companies also attended, which set the scene for an energetic evening of networking, talks, presentations, Q&As and refreshments.
Lead Mechanical Engineer Paul Kaliafetis, who is on the IMechE Yorkshire Eastern Area committee, suggested that OSL host an event, and subsequently volunteered to help organise it. Though OSL’s senior management team has decades of experience and countless industry contacts, our engineers and other team members go the extra mile to support the company’s continuous development. This can-do attitude and regular display of initiative has contributed to budding engineers following the path to becoming chartered, whilst OSL proudly bears the status of IChemE Bronze Corporate Partner and is accredited by the IMechE to a Monitored Personal Development Scheme (MPDS).
We are always open to suggestions for hosting and attending industry events. If you have one in mind, please get in touch: 01482 626400 // info@oslconsulting.com
