An Evening Alive with Energy
After eight years of supplying engineering consultation to the gas and oil industry, the Management Team at OSL decided it was time to expand operations and demonstrate our commitment to the local economy by relocating to newly purchased premises. The move to OSL House on Henry Boot Way, one of Hull’s bustling trade districts, could not have gone more smoothly, and on Thursday 21st November we paid tribute to this milestone in our company’s history with a special guest evening.
Clients and suppliers were invited to celebrate with our team right here in OSL House, with over forty people attending, including Lord Christopher Haskins, former member of the Labour party and Chairman of the Council of the Open University. After Alastair Robertson, Principal Director at OSL, welcomed guests and thanked them for supporting our aspirations to grow and dedication to improving the Humber region’s energy technologies, everyone was free to enjoy a drink, a bite to eat and a chat, and to explore the more surprising areas of our new building.
For those of you who haven’t yet visited OSL House, we urge you to do so. Our Clever Thinking Room is a space for the team to find inspiration, with two walls installed with floor-to-ceiling vinyls to give the impression of walking into a forest, a 65” Windows touch screen TV and white glass walls to capture the ideas and solutions for technical challenges. The main staircase between our three floors sports a fascinating timeline of engineering through the centuries, including the feat of mechanics that is the nearby Humber Bridge. Guests were even invited to a game of table football or to relax in beach chairs on our first floor, surrounded by sea, sand and sun (or as close to the real thing as you’ll get in the headquarters of an engineering consultancy).
The timing could not have been better, as the previous day saw Hull win the status of City of Culture 2017. This too played a large role in the celebratory atmosphere of the evening, as the next few years will see new job opportunities, increased tourism and nation PR, all of which will help Hull and its communities to further improve the region’s standing as a hotspot of British business. We're also delighted to say the event received a large article in the local press.
