A Double Success
OSL has recently celebrated two of our team members achieving their shared goal through the IChemE’s Accredited Company Training Scheme (ACTS). Graeme Trotter and Ben Andrew are our latest engineers to be awarded Chartership status and are now Senior Process Engineers within OSL.
Graeme was OSL’s first graduate. Joining the company in 2008 and working closely with Principal Director Alastair Robertson, together they developed the OSL Graduate Training Scheme to meet the development needs of Graeme and future graduates in the company. The scheme was subsequently accredited by the IChemE under ACTS in September 2009. Ben joined after working at an engineering design house in North Lincolnshire and was the second engineer to enter the scheme.
By accessing OSL’s involvement with ACTS they were provided the framework for continued professional development, whilst Alastair Robertson supplied valuable advice and mentoring. Exposure to working on gas terminals and seeing first-hand the equipment and operations added enormously to the development of both young engineers.
“The Chartership process is about acquiring a depth and breadth of professional experience,” explained Ben. “The engineer demonstrates how they apply their knowledge in a day-to-day role, shows an understanding of the wider implications of chemical engineering, and proves that they are able to utilise the necessary interpersonal skills.”
Alastair Robertson said: “Progressing engineers through the Chartership scheme is essential to OSL as it provides assurance to clients that our services are of the highest quality. Each team member is given everything they need to understand the safety aspects of their career, improve their skills and apply ingenuity, resulting in our projects running smoothly and to strict deadlines.”
Ben added: “Becoming Chartered was important to me as it means that the work I do every day is recognised as meeting the high standards required by the IChemE. It’s incredibly rewarding.”
Now that Ben and Graeme have reached this milestone, the next step is to continue developing their abilities and, true to the OSL philosophy, help others to progress through the Chartership process.
