Internationally Recognised Development Frameworks for Every Engineer

For many years OSL has worked with the IChemE, which represents nearly 40,000 members worldwide. Five years ago, OSL’s Graduate Development Programme was accredited by the IChemE, thereby becoming an Accredited Company Training Scheme (ACTS). The on-going relationship helps our chemical engineers to improve their skill set, attend insightful events and access the tools required to achieve chartership. In May 2014 we attained Bronze Corporate Partnership, an enviable status awarded by the IChemE to organisations committed to providing training and development opportunities for their chemical and process engineering talent. The status was presented by Justin Blades, the IChemE’s Deputy Chief Executive, as part of an event at OSL House. Eighteen months later, we now have our sights set on the next stage.

With a reaccreditation visit due later in September, OSL is aiming for Silver Corporate Partnership in the final quarter of 2015 and looking to further the partnership with the IChemE. Beverley Magumise and Josh Ojera have recently joined ACTS, taking us to nine graduates now involved. One of our earliest products of the scheme is Ben Andrew, who accessed years of expert advice, first-hand experience and challenging projects to finally become a Chartered Chemical Engineer. With Principal Director Alastair Robertson and other team members supplying valuable mentoring, combined with exposure to working on gas terminals and other installations, we’re committed to helping many more budding engineers achieve their career goals through a framework for continued professional advancement.

Meanwhile, the IMechE have recommended us for accreditation following a visit in late August. We currently have a number of chartered mechanical engineers in OSL and two, Daniel Peary and Mark Evans, who are actively progressing through the development scheme, striving to enhance their technical understanding and practical knowledge of the mechanical engineering industry. Once OSL has achieved accreditation from the IMechE, we will move on to seeking Corporate Partnership in early 2016.

This ongoing activity reflects OSL’s dedication to providing the very best environment for engineers, designers and planners of all levels. Accreditation means that our team members can access world-class resources, advice from industry leaders and a clear development structure, helping them to advance anywhere from a graduate to a chartered engineer. In turn, OSL can attract, train and retain forward-thinking technical specialists, working collaboratively with the energy and related sectors to provide quality implemented solutions.
